General Election 2005


Families First has compiled a list of MPs who want to criminalise parents who smack their children. These MPs:

  • are members of the Children Are Unbeatable campaign, which has the banning of corporal punishment by parents as one of its aims, and/or
  • voted on 2nd November 2004 for David Hinchliffe's amendment to the Children Bill attempting to ban parental smacking. It should be noted that all Labour MP's who voted for this amendment were disobeying the party whip which required them to vote against it.

The information in the lists below is based on the results of the General Election of 2001. The final column indicates those MPs who are not standing in the 2005 General Election.

Families First has issued a press release encouraging familes in all constituencies to enquire where their local candidates stand on this important issue:
